Victor is being pressured into an arranged marriage by his parents. His betrothed, Victoria, is going through the same thing. Victor’s parents want to be in with high society, which will come with their son’s marriage to Victoria, while Victoria’s parents want the money they will gain through their daughter marrying Victor. When they finally meet for the first time, they fall in love, luckily. Victor is, unfortunately clumsy, and ruins the wedding rehearsal. When he leaves, he walks through the woods, while practising his wedding vows. He puts the wedding ring on what looks like a raised root from a tree. This turns out to be the finger of a dead woman, who had been cruelly murdered. She comes back from the dead and accepts his vows. Now claiming to be his wife, she takes him to the Land of the Dead. Victor tries to explain that it was a mistake and he must get back to Victoria for their wedding.

To be honest, I don’t think I can praise Tim Burton any more. I have nothing new to say. This movie is a cinematic masterpiece. The voice cast is outstanding. Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Joanna Lumley, Albert Finney, Christopher Lee, Richard E Grant, Jane Horrocks and Danny Elfman. Wow!

I also love the songs, but that’s no surprise thanks to Danny Elfman. Emily’s song is very sad, and always tears me up a bit. “Remains of the Day” is incredibly catchy and Danny Elfman does a great job. I love the scat parts. Also Danny Elfman.

I saw this movie at the cinema when it came out the weekend before Halloween. It’s definitely a movie that you should see at least once, then watch over and over until you know all the songs off by heart. Just me…? Danny Elfman.

Tomorrow is Halloween, the final day. Everyone’s entitled to one good scare.
